Today's 'nook' is my front porch. I took these photos one afternoon last week, after inspecting Wilfred's spectacular 'save' of my front French Doors. The afternoon light is positively divine. I am looking forward to making this very bare front porch pretty with plants and 'things', eventually, but in the meantime it is still a tradesman's entrance, complete with muddy footprints up the steps and to the front door. Now honest opinion....see my little copper table setting, should I paint it white, leave it and green it up with plants, or turf it in the skip? I am NOT a hoarder but I think that I have some unexplained sentimental tie to this little setting. What should I do girls? Be honest.

Definitely don't paint it white! I think that it might have a tendency to blend into the porch a little too much if you did.... My vote is to green it up!
I think. Leave it as it is and green it up.
Loving the home your house is becoming.
Beautiful sunlight there!! Maybe just green it up and include some lovely seat pads for older derrieres like mine! Although I do carry my own seat padding these days!
Leave it until you get the other stuff on the porch decided. You may find that a charcoal colour is more in tune to the porch than white...or you may find that white, or off white is more suitable.
Don't do anything with it until the rest is done...
In my humble opinion
Lesley
Ohhh we would be tempted to paint it grey. It looks a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine in the sun.
Leave it...its lovely!
But some greenery would be nice, and some cushions as mentioned above!
Those pictures are just beautiful, really love the light. Lovely porch.
If it's sentimental, keep it. I don't think I'd paint it white, maybe green it up.xxx
Dear A-M, I think that painting the setting white or a pastel colour, or a creme or pastel beige could be a good lift for the setting to help give it individuality in its surroundings after you have added plants and greenery to the surroundings. I think the copper colour makes it become part of the floor boards too much and drags it down a bit. The "shape" the setting gives to the porch is great too. Just my opinion. (maybe pastel lavender or pastel beige amongst the greenery and flowers on the porch?) Love Cocofemme. x
I love the way the sun shines here in these shots. beautiful.
A beautiful sunny spot, with beautiful little table & chairs. I think that once you have the greenery and other stuff in place it will fit right in just the way it is. Lee :)
I love it as is - don't paint it (you'll just have to touch it up every year). It's a charming little set and looks like it is waiting for someone to come sit with you and have lemonade while flipping through magazines. I'll be right over.... (I wish!)
Lovely sunny spot for breakfast on the porch. I would paint the setting white of course and then add all your bits & pieces. The white will blend with all your trims.
I like the table and chairs the way they are, if I were to paint it, I thik I might do it in black. I think when you get all your greens around and pots etc, you probably can tell then what you might like to do. Congratulations on the lovely article written up you and your home. Oh one more thing , I really really like your new header for the blog. The wallpaper looks so pretty. Julie in Holland....
I say leave it for now and see what the porch looks like down the track before deciding.
I would leave it as is, but then I am biased as I have a similar setting that I just love. I dress it up with pretty floral cloths, cushions and china or plain white depending on my mood. It's a classic look that can't go wrong. I have a house full of white furniture so like having something different on my verandahs. Also, as mentioned, once painted it's just something else that has to be maintained.
hi AM, I'd probably leave it, put a bit more texture/colour into other items on the porch (eg. big clock, plants). But if you want to paint it, maybe charcoal??? Depends on whatelse is on the porch!
The table setting is very cute A-M def keep it, but paint it flat chalky white or French grey if you want a change. xv
I agree with Robin. If you paint it you're making a rod for your own back. Besides which, I like it as it is. I would think that it will weather and age beautifully and so look lovely surrounded by a few plants. (...And cushions...yes cushions would be good).
Gorgeous light in these shots BTW - very pretty photos.
Oh thank you for all your wonderful suggestions! I so appreciate it and value your opinions... after all you all have such fabulous taste! I try to visit you all as much as possible but I apologise if I haven't been visiting as much lately. As you would all know, there are not enough hours in the day to visit all one's blog 'lovelies'.... and run a life! How would I ever have built this house on my own, without all your help, my friends... your suggestions, feedback, constructive criticism, email links to suppliers... you name it, you've done it for me! When people visit and ask me about my inspirations and how the house evolved, I always say "through my blog friends, they chartered the course". So.... a heartfelt thankyou is sent your way tonight, with love from A-M xx
Hi A-M! I say leave it and green it up!
Your railing is STUNNING!! Ohmygosh it turned out beautifully!! Just love the design! j.
My opinion is you should pack up that table and chairs and send them to me!!!!! They are adorable, love them. I'd leave them as is till you get everything else like you want it. Then paint them if you feel they need it. I like them just like they are!
Lvoe the warm color of the sun on your porch, I wish I were sitting there right now!
Jill
Leave it copper!!!! Add colour on top of the table... it's FAB just like it is!!!
I do agree with the girls too, Lady! Leave as it is. The charm is there, remember §;-)
Hugs to all!
Looks like it is staying as is for now, due to popular opinion. I will start beautifying this area and then see how we go. Might start by mopping muddy footprints off decking! I will post pictures as soon I start! Thank you all so much! A-M xx
Your railing design will go into my idea file.
I would leave the table and chairs. All you need now is a friend and a couple of lemonades or coffees.
