Kitchen Love

Back to the house. It's been 'boy talk' for a while now. They're back at school so everything is so quiet now :( How about some decent photos of of my kitchen? This is a first I think - some decent photos.

To be honest, this is my most favourite part of my home. It's such a great work space and the centre of our home. It all happens here...homework, computer work, foodstuffs, socialising, caffeine overdoses (once the kitchen was functional in the build, with water and electricity, honestly I have never made so many coffees in my life... to every tradesperson, "oh you must start your day with a coffee"... and of course I would have one too... great for bonding with the lads... but oh the addiction... took me months to stop shaking).

Building again, I'd be hard pressed deciding on what I'd do differently. Oh, one thing.... I'd add a computer/home office nook, recessed right there where the Paris prints are..... the butler's pantry would have to be deeper to accommodate and the island would have to move down a bit. Then I would also have to do a matching coffee machine nook over there in the corner where the clock is... so then the windows and the stove would all have to move down a bit and then maybe, seeing I am doubling the size of it all, I could slip in a built in bench seat/breakfast nook at the other end and move the French Doors along a bit..... hmmmm. It would still be a variation on this theme as I love it so much.

Hey and I just sent all my specs to my "Instant New Best Friend Next Door", who abandoned me and moved back to Perth. She's building her new home and wants my kitchen and laundry. Did they arrive D? Did your builder have a heart attack?

I'm waffling....this is my only outlet..... as I don't do twitter, facebook ......Happy Tuesday!
A-M xx

  2. Dear A-M, I thought I was the only crazy one. I am an architect and we just built our house about 1 and 1/2 year ago. I LOVE my place, but just like you, I am always thinking "what if" I had done this a little over there? Or this window here, or that island there... And my thoughts go on and on... I really don't tell my husband, he would think I am crazy! But I am glad to see I'm not the only one! LOL.

  11. Im right with you on that design A-M. I love our island bench , the open feeling it gives to our space. Already know when we build the next house will be adding the office nook /coffee bar & butlers pantry. We didnt have the space in our kitchen renovation this time.

  12. I love your kitchen. Thanks for the extra photos. To me your kitchen looks like it would actually be really functional with good stretches of counter but with the appliance and sink still close enough together. I could see a computer nook would be a good addition. I've always wanted one as well.

  18. Good morning A-M, your kitchen is lovely! I am so envious. You have lots of space and light and no clutter. If you do get clutter you can hide it all away in your lovely pantry! xx

  23. Was I dreaming or did you give The Hedge an exclusive this morning A-M? If that's the case, I'm excited & confused at the same time. My blabbing bloggers lips are sealed, but only for limited time, so you better do a post or I will!!!

  24. Hi A-M, I'm a recent reader of your blog and love it. We are in the process of designing a new white kitchen and what I would like to know is what you think of your freestanding oven? Is it easy to keep clean (down the sides as it doesn't join the bench, and underneath)? At the shops today and just cant decide between that and a double wall oven!!

  25. Stunning with or with out the study nook and built in coffee corner. Your butlers pantry is what I am particularly envious about. I have a big U shaped kitchen and I think it would make it too dark and pokey to build one in. It would leave no room for an island and result in only one window. Would love to know what you think.

  33. Oh how I love your kitchen - looks like it's straight off the pages of a magazine :) How is your friend liking it over here in Perth?

  34. LOVE it, it's so elegant and practical. I'm new to this blog, a friend recommended it as I'm getting a new kitchen. What colour stone and cabinetry did you use? i'm not sure if I should go white with a neutral benchtop or white with a dark grey. Also how do you access your old posts as it looks like you've have probably gone through all of this? Thanks!

  35. I love your kitchen too A-M! so glad that we could help with the window placement, poor builder having to move them, but it was all for the greater good.
