Out Loud

He wanted to read it - he's proud of me - this is the one who loves the sound of my walking.

We did some reading out loud to Mum last night. Learnt some great new words: traipsed, vignette, architect, dilemma and synchronise, just to name a few. It's going to take us a while to get to the end..... AND before you start sending me in the 'cruelty to children' emails (...believe it!....can't please anyone these days).... no children were harmed in the process or in the preparation of this post.

P.S. Oh and sorry about the ironing board.

P.P.S. Love him.

P.P.P.S. I won a 6 month subscription to Home Beautiful over at Jennifer's Blog: Inside Out Colour And Design. Hilarious! Have never won a thing in my life... oh I lie... a gorgeous lamp from Buyster, but it was so recent that I still think that I have never won a thing in my life. I can't really say that anymore, can I! I  hadn't sent in my subscription cheque to HB... so PERFECT timing! Thank you so much Jennifer!

  1. Don't you just love kids who love words - they seem to mint them freshly whenever they learn a new one!

  2. Winning the subscription is just so right A-M, it must be karma, considering you had to wait soooo long for a glimpse of your own house! And as for cruelty to kids - some people really have far too much time on their hands. Seriously. K xx

  5. This so reminds me of me! I make Georgiana read the decorating books and magazines all the time! She is the only 7 year old I know who knows what patina and palette mean and she also knows the difference between a Louis the 15th and Louis 16th style chair. (We draw and colour them in all the time and then draw the princesses to sit on them.) Hope everything is going well and I forgot to say so I do apologize but thank-you so much for adding me to your blogroll! Have a lovely day... I have just the school run and am about to start painting! Renovating the office!

  12. Oh how gorgeous!! Back when I was teaching, we always talked about the importance of 'teaching within a realistic context' - you have provided the perfect example :)

  13. Hi A-M!

This is supposed to be an email to you, rather than a post, if that's ok... I am a daily reader of your blog and so extraordinarily proud for you of the beautiful magazine shoot! Congratulations!!

Now here's the embarrassing part of my message... ever since Millie at The Laurel Hedge shared a photo of herself, the polite-Eve has been battling the insanely-curious-Eve to stop her from writing and asking you to post a photo of yourself. When the magazine shoot didn't include a photo of you, I couldn't contain the rude, curious side of me any longer... Please put me out of my misery! Even if you post a photo tomorrow and take it off the next day... (Sorry, I know I sound like a psycho...)

Thank-you for making me smile every day, Eve.

  14. Guess what I just bought????!!!!!

Don't know whether to savour it until after children's bedtime or get them to read it aloud now.

By jingo, I might do both.

"C'mon children, rally 'round! Don't hog the pictures."

    :)

  16. Thanks for leaving the ironing board in. It reminds me you are human after all and that your home doesn't always look like a magazine spread! I love the reading out loud!

  17. Hi A-M, i just picked up a copy of HB today & I had to have a giggle when I was reading why you started your blog. I am in the process of designing my own home & the frustration of waiting for things to happen has led me to begin my own blog. I love EVERYTHING about your home, you must be bursting with pride. Congratulations, I cant wait to see your next project!!!
