Happy Days

Is that my child? Very skilled at keeping warm on the chairlifts...he had it all worked out.

Well it couldn't have been more perfect weather yesterday... a light dusting of snow, no breeze, pure warm sunshine. The runs were just soft enough and not too icy.  The previous day's winds blew it all off the mountain! Thank goodness for snow guns though .. or there would have been no early ski season for us Brisbanites. It was crowded yesterday... I can't imagine what it's going to be like here next week, peak season, start of the NSW school holidays. There was no-one here when we first arrived..... we had the mountain to ourselves!

My boys are officially 'spectacular skiiers' (said the biased mother), parallel all the way, so confident and graceful...so much better than me I reckon. I think I am getting a bit more conservative, speed wise, as I get older... the snowboarders scare me now... yep the fearless, reckless bungy jumping days of my youth are long gone. I need to stay alive for my children.

The move seems so long ago now that I have had a holiday. I was starting to worry that I would never feel 'not tired' again. It's amazing what a holiday does.... even a very active one!

Hubby and I have decided that we need to take more holidays... not one week every 2 or so years. Actually there was one 3 year stint there, without a holiday ... in the thick of very young children, following the conclusion that it would have been more trouble than it was worth. I am sure many of you have experienced the 'tag team holiday', where one parent gets up to the children and takes them for 4am pram walks while the other gets a long deserved sleep in..... til maybe 6am!... or one skis while the other babysits.  As we have worked for ourselves for close to 13 years, we have also found it hard to justify holidays and taking time away from our businesses too. Things are going to change. Oh how we are cherishing the older children thing now......as we can take our kidlets with us everywhere, they behave... and they amuse themselves! This holiday?... every spare moment my boys have been doing origami....even the serviettes in restaurants... haven't heard a peep from them in the chalet. Hubby and I have had time to ourselves..... a total luxury and soooo treasured.

 Restaurant Origami

Well I am signing off for the weekend. I have so enjoyed having broadband down here in the snow. Hopefully by the time we get back, to our apartment in Brissie, our dial up will be a distant memory and I can finally spend some time catching up with all of you.
Have a great weekend!

  1. That sounds like a wonderful holiday for all of you A-M! And I agree with you about the fear thing, ridiculous really to be intrepid when young with everything to lose, and turn into a nervous nellie with age and hormones.
    When I'm old, I hope I take up sky-diving!

  3. Ah the snow, this will be our first season we don't go down as a family (L was conceived there!!!)because of the European jaunt. F will take L down when we get back late Aug, he started skiing last year and loved it. Looking forward to when holidays aren't a tag team, sounds blissful. Love the new look of the blog by the way. Happy holidays.

  7. The new look is great A-M. It really was a stroke of genius on your part going away after the move. We haven't had a proper holiday in a long time and we're feeling it..All the money is going in to the house..We've always taken the 4 older girls with us (even on our honeymoon) and I guess it is as much work as pleasure! Plus poor hubby usually has to work for at least half of any trip! Charlotte and Bridget are only 18 months apart so it's only now that Bridget is nearly 3 that they are starting to play together for longer stretches and able to do the same activities. Which means that we can possibly consider taking them overseas next year..Here's hoping! So happy you've all had a lovely time at the snow..Rachaelxx

  8. Oh how right you are A-M, if I had a dollar for every crazy thing I did in my youth.....
Having children changes the rules, even as they become young adults they still need mum and dad for unconditional love and support.

  9. How lovely you've been able to enjoy a lovely, relaxing and refreshing break and that your boys are at that wonderful age where they can appreciate holidays and keep themselves busy. We are still at the 'tag team' stage and after our last attempt at a weekend away, I think our next one will be a fair way off :) Love the restaurant origami :)
