Closer To Home

This is us. This is where we live. The video footage in the previous post was taken in Ryan St. Friends live in Cordeaux street.... remember the beautiful heritage Queenslander I posted about a while back, with the puppy in the front yard who always wants me to throw the ball for her? Ona and Arthur are you ok? Oh our beautiful Orleigh Park is all under. It was such a BEAUTIFUL park.. one of the best in Brisbane. I fed my soul there every morning on my walks. The boys played soccer there every day.

I am hoping to get over the river today. I want to go home.

I know how difficult it must be to share some of this .... but it is so incredibly helpful for us to actually have you point out the landmarks we've come to know.

Another blogger here to give you, your boys and all those in the affected areas a big collective hug. You are all in our hearts and our thoughts as you face this challenge. I know it will take time, but know that one day life will get back to normal. I had two cousins who lost their homes in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina hit. The flooding was so devastating on all counts, but slowly life has returned to almost normal.

I'm sending an extra bit of good wishes for the lizards. I love lizards! Be well and be safe.

Oh dear A-M and precious boys, i so hope that your home is ok. So sorry to hear about the lizards, tough times for the little boys.
Fingers crossed that the water wasn't too high. It has been amazing to see that Aussie spirit and people helping everyone even though they are complete strangers.

Oh A-M, what can I say? I listen all day to radio updates via Triple J. I watch the news at night. I read the papers online each day. And pray for you and the boys. Pray for all of my friends and family in Australia. Pray for a place I once called home.

I am just so happy that you and the boys are healthy and safe.

Sending you hugs and love.
Andrea

Hi A-M,
I hope you and your boys are ok and you will have a chance to get back to your flat soon.
We are also in a flat in the Brisbane CBD, but we were lucky enough to be able to stay as our building managers worked really hard to keep power on and sandbag prior to the water coming in.
If you need any help whatsoever, please don't hesitate to ask, my husband and I are willing and able to help (me a little less able as I'm a bit sick at the moment, but Will is a champion and such a hard worker).
If you get a chance, take a look at some of the photos on my blog (beaufordhouse.blogspot.com). I have posted some photos of how beautiful Brisbane was and can be again. I had to put them up to remind myself that she is a beautiful city and will get through this tough time.
Again, any help you need, just email me.
Good luck to you and your boys.
Much love Michelle xo

All the best A-M, I have everything still crossed for you. It is unbelievable how many people have been affected by this and it has been especially heartwarming to see the generosity of strangers all over with offers of help and support. I really love this place and when I see everybody chipping in the way they are, I know this city will come back bigger and better than ever before but with an even stronger sense of community. Good luck, I too have a good feeling for you, Robyn

Let us know how you get on A-M - hope you can get over the river!! We have an apartment in Hope Street (not too far from your place), and haven't heard yet whether it survived. Not much we can do from Hong Kong... just sit and wait to hear really:(

Just looking at the comments above - they reflect what I've been seeing on the news, i.e. the kindness of people pulling together in a crisis and helping each other out.
Wishing and hoping for good news for you. x

What a relief- both you and a friend quoted 2 cm as the gap between relief and despair.
