Hmmm, A Flood

We have been evacuated from our little unit, as the Brisbane River has broken it's banks. I managed to get some clothes, school uniforms, my violin, Brynley's guitar and 'Bun-Bun' and 'Ted-Ted' (Kristian's bed toys)... that's it. I  turned around to look at the few precious bits and pieces we have in our new little digs (we only moved in pre New Year) and thought to myself, "well I wanted a fresh start, what a way to do it". I didn't put anything up high, didn't really have any time. My beautiful chair (remember the one from the house)... I gave it a loving last look and our beautiful piano... just belongings... just things. We are holed up in a city hotel with some dear friends of ours from the same complex. I have shed a few tears... just to get it all out of my system....I am a little scared. I'll miss my comfy bed! Funny what thoughts go through your head when you know your worldly possessions are under threat. I will let you know how we go. Peak is expected within the next 24 hours. How life changes! But we are safe and well. I've got my boys.. that's all that matters.

Glad you and your family are all ok. Watching the news updates here in Perth, its hard to comprehend the magnitude of this flood- especially while we have massive fires burning. All the best for the coming days and hope it stops raining soon!

Hi A-M, I thought about you and your family this afternoon when I heard on the radio that the River had breached its banks. I hope all goes well and not too much damage is suffered to your things. We're all amazed by what is happening in Qld and hope this deluge doesn't last too much longer for all you wonderful Qlders.

I've been thinking of you all day A-M hoping that you are getting to safety etc. I was nearly going to email you so I'm so glad to see this post.
I'm glad that you and B & K are safe and sound and I really hope that the flood waters don't get as far as your unit. You are an amazingly strong person to keep your chin up in the midst of all of this. Lots of positive thoughts are going your way! Huge hugs and keep us updated my dear! Jxx

I'm glad to hear that you and the boys are safe and sound A-M.

I just cannot fathom what Queensland is going through. I mean we had what we thought was a major flood a few years back in Newcastle and I have never been so scared in all my life. It is nothing compared to what is happening up north.

My prayers are with you all and as you said these things are belongings and not what is most important in life.

Thinking of you.

A-M, you have definitely been in my thoughts since I heard of the evacuations this morning. This flood is incredible, unbelievable actually.

You sound so very brave in the face of adversity and yes when it comes down to it - posessions, although beautiful, are not as important as the ones we love.

Wow, A-M, I am open-mouthed at your calm and strength. You have been stripped down to the essentials of life - and you are still here, standing proud, inspiring us with your words and there for your boys. You are amazing. I really hope and pray the flood subsides and your things are ok. Thinking of you. Which sounds a bit lame, but not sure what else I can do so far a way!

I have felt sick all day wondering what is going to happen in Brisbane, after the footage of the last few days. I had promised to take my daughter last week to the art galleries there tommorow (wont be happening) I begged a friend of mine to come down to the coast tonight from Brisbane but she feels she is safe.
Im glad you & the boys are tucked away safely. I am only as far away as the Northern Gold Coast & if there is anything I can do , anything at all please contact me & let me know.

Just think that you and your boys are safe. we are in shock of the news coming from Towoomba etc. I hope your stuff stays safe but as you say there's always a fresh start. our thoughts are with you and the rest of flooded Qld. you are very strong and will be able to pick up the piece of your life. let us know how you get on. A bottle of wine from room service shared with your friends once your boys are in bed sounds a grand idea!

Watching it all unfold from here in Melbourne . Un-bel-eeeeeve-able!
The amount of water!!!!
At least you can go somewhere and you are all safe. The 'things' can always be replaced and the memories will always be there but your family is not. I can only imagine you feel a little as I did when the Black Saturday fires were close by here in the Dandenongs. At least you have the time to be safe. We send you love and best wishes from my family to yours. May it all be over quickly and not as they are predicting.
I have been thinking of all my blogging friends there and hoping everyone is ok. Thankyou for letting us know :)

AM!! Poor you! I have a spare room if you get sick of the hotel! And I live on a hill.

The chaotic scenes as I left the city at lunch were unbelievable. And Woolies at Paddington was BARE like a London shoppe circa 1942- no milk, no bread, no apples, no bottled water, no torches...People were panic shopping.

Mr FF is in Nth Qld so I have my candles, lighters, and water at the ready.

I loathe a flood. Especially when I am by myself and pregnant.

The situation is Hardcore Apocalyptic.

God I could use a strong drink.

Be brave xxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi A-M,
Stay Safe and Take Care! I am holed up at home just waiting for all of this to pass - not quickly enough in my opinion. It took my daughters ages to get home today, but God I am so happy to have them here with me now. I have just heard that it will be Saturday when it all subsides! So many people have lost so much, it is just devastating, my heart goes out to them. Stay Safe, you are in our thoughts and prayers, Robyn
