Thursday Musings

Seriously overdue for a pretty house/design/something not flood related picture here.
Love those chairs. Next time.

James update: $582! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am off to deliver $217 to him this morning. Thought I'd take my boys. They are dying to meet him.

House update: Washing done, floors vacuumed, smiling happy children. TV doesn't work, no signal, did some TV aerial thingys go under water perhaps? must ask Warren. Luma and Inger's TV doesn't work either. Listen to me wondering about TV when people have a shell left that used to be their house. Perspective. I could have lasted longer with the cold showers, I really could. It was so hot last night I even turned my hot shower to cold at the end of it last night, to cool off! This is the tropics and Brisbane is notoriously hot and humid in summer. Small blessings that we sort of missed summer with all the rain. Temperatures have been almost chilly.... up until now. Unfortunate that the lovely cool rain turned not so lovely, transformed into a flood and decimated this beautiful town though.

Children update: They are loving school. Already. Love their teachers. Love their subjects. So grateful that they have another year at their beautiful school. My life is complete.

Me update: Walking in the mornings, except this morning. Want to sit with an electrically boiled coffee and contemplate the universe. Taking life slowly, living in the moment. I am learning to 'trust life'.

Today is a good day.

  1. Can you believe the last few months of your life? They've been very dramatic A-M.

So happy your electricity is back, hope the telly returns soon.

During times filled with disappointment and loss it is so hard and challenging to keep the faith and try to find joy. I like to start with the simple things (like your coffee) and I find that routine helps.

The sadness is still there lurking, but we learn to manage it. Maybe the understanding and acceptance part comes later.

  4. That really is wonderful that the boys love school so much, it must be like an anchor for them - just as the blog might be to you. I hope they can continue on there although I understand why that might not be possible. Enjoy your boiled coffee..Rachaelxx

  20. Very much 'one day at a time'...
Maybe 2011 should start on Feb 1st this year?
When I lived in the UK a very wise person once told me that he started his new year in the Spring (which was around end of Feb/start of March). He felt that this was a better time for the body and mind to accept change and grow. Something to think about it isn't it?
Hope you continue to have good days A-M.

  21. Hello lovely A-M!!!!

This walking business has many benefits. James will no doubt be blown away again by your generosity. I heard him talk about his reasons for connecting with his community and he can teach us all something there. I admire his courage and determination to combat his isolation.

I do believe whole-heartedly in the healing power of rituals and routine.

So happy to hear the boys are settled back at school and can stay there this year xx

  24. You know, Ive not read your post for today - the only part that my eyes have picked up on is 'Today is a good day' - and I almost feel that that is the only bit I need to ready.
Im so very happy that youve reached this point (even if its just for one day - hopefully it spreads over several days, into weeks and back in to 'normal' life - back to happiness. Stay strong.

  26. Dear Ms A-M, Such a lovely post from you. When one has been through horrible times, sometimes the simple enjoyment of little things can be wonderful. I am so glad that your children are loving school. I get such pleasure picking mine up from school and hearing all about their busy days. Did you buy a lottery ticket? I think your luck is changing. love Linda xxx

  28. Hi A-M,
Glad to hear you and the boys are doing well and that you manged to stay dry. Only just, by the sounds of it! Very emotional when looking at your pics of floods. Feels so surreal, seeing familair places, the devastation, yet being on the other side of the world. Rocky Mountain retreat ready whenevr you and the boys are up for the journey. I find the mountains very theraputic, just like the beach. Have been trying to reach you via email with no luck. Take Care.
    Love
