Update

River is peaking in the city (where I live) at 3pm today, after a king tide meets the water overflows from the dam. It is then peaking again tomorrow morning at predicted higher levels than the disasterous 1974 Brisbane floods.

The predicted levels tomorrow will guarantee that we will go under. Please make them be wrong.

Our beautiful town is making the world news. People are being rescued from their roofs. All we can do is wait.

My boys are fretting over their lizards. Poor things. They are in a little enclosure on a stand. If we only get a metre through our place, they will be ok. They are more important than "the chair". Funny how your priorities change. I am even cherishing the belongings I have with me.... my familiar clothes, the boys toys. Sigh.

And the great irony.... it's beautiful and sunny here at the moment, while the river rises. It's not about what is falling from the sky. The 8 metre wall of water from Toowoomba is coming our way, 2 Sydney harbours worth of water is being released from the dams each day, king tides... they will come despite the sunshine.

"Just keep swimming, just keep swimming".

Back soon.

  13. be safe A-M, and yes is very unnerving that Sunshine today, almost the calm before the storm. I have a very sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, or storage container for the markets is at Portside Wharf and I hope for dear life that it is not seen floating down the Brisbane river tomorrow.... fingers crossed! Maybe the boys lizards could hitch a ride on top of it if things go pear shaped!

  23. A-M, I hope your place makes it through ok. I can't imagine what must be going through your minds right now. I am totally shocked by what I am seeing on TV.

Hope you are also Ok at the hotel. My husband has had to leave his hotel in the Brisbane CBD this morning as they've now cut the power. He's hopefully on the way to the airport now to come back to Sydney. I hope your hotel isn't affected. Stay safe!

It's gut wrenching stuff, friends of ours on the river at Hawthorne are sandbagging, packing and doing all they can to protect their beautiful newly renovated home, so many tears have been shed by us all, it's not just about the loss, stuff can be replaced, I think it's shock.
