What I Get Up To In The Mornings

Yeah, I know. Festering. I really need to up the glamour here.
Too much 'flood mud'.
I have a great idea for tomorrow's post.
Glamour - I promise.

I'm a bit out of sync with my early morning blog posts at the moment. I'll tell you why.

I have taken up running. Yes. Once the boys are off to school, I am running my heart out. It's good. It gives me an opportunity to be 'fierce'. It feels good to start the day sort of 'physically spent'.

I downloaded the C25K (Couch to 5 K) app for my iphone. Started it last week. Last week, I didn't really like the bits where he said, "run" but this week, I keep running even when he says "walk". I make the most of the energetic moments...... where I feel like I could run forever.

I think the key for me is the music I run to. Upbeat, energetic tunes for the running bits (Pet Shop Boys, Crazy P, Pink) and 'soothing and comforting' (FF, 2010) crooners music (Michael Buble, Rod Stewart American Songbook - love it), and a bit of 'Mumford and Sons', for the walking up hills bits .

So I have just done my run, the endorphins are kicking in and I'm spent. It's good.

Life is good.

Your post this morning couldn't have come at a better time A-M. After years of early morning exercise, a back injury stopped me in my tracks. But now, it's time to get back into it. I'll be downloading that app right now, as you've just given me the kick in the butt I needed. It was your house posts that got me hooked when I first found your blog, and now it's running. Thanks A-M, for my daily dose of inspiration! K xx

I feel exhausted just reading this ha.It gets to me to thinking, I don't know where all the bloggers find time to do all the things they do, ie. cooking, crafting exercising, doing stuff with their kids, doing stuff with their partners, working, volunteering, finding time for "me", going out with friends, holidaying, travelling, renovating, shopping, manicures...and so the list goes on. I think I need to employ more help...ha xx Katherine

Wow, you are an amazing woman. Superwoman! I wish I could run but I am just not there yet.

Maybe I should rephrase the 'running' bit. More like the 'Cliffy Young shuffle'. Wasn't he an inspiration! A-M xx

My 16 year old stepdaughter convinced me to go for a walk today around our local lake - it's about 2 1/4 miles (3 1/2 k?). When she asked me if I wanted to run it I said, without thinking, "Hell, No!" Isn't that awful? Of course, I quickly corrected myself with a "maybe next time". I used to run around that thing in 20 minutes flat. Next time, I will run at least part way.

I'm glad to hear you found a podcast that helps you get motivated!

Oh I am ok at the Cliff Young shuffle. Its the running that is hard. I wonder if that app would go on an ipod. If so I am going to give it a go.
I rode my bike to work today. My legs felt like jelly and I couldn't talk to anyone for at least 5 mins. But, I was so productive when I arrived. Cleaned and decluttered my desk. Made new files etc. I was on fire. By 3.30 I will be in desperate need of coffee and chocolate.
Well done you for taking the running plunge!

You legend, A-M. I can just hear that it's doing you a power of good. Mind you, your shoes would have to be a lot kinder on the feet than Cliffy's old gumboots! J x

I am so not a running type person but good on you! I too like the last three words... ;-)

Good for you! Keep at it. I could barely run a mile at one point (I was skinny but not fit) and I eventually ran a marathon. Still boggles my mind. If I could do it, anyone could!

I am now runing for 50 minutes and whilst I havent lost a ton of weight things have toned up nicely.
I can throughly recomend the Minstry of Sound Running trax series on Itunes very fun and great for running and jogging.

How wonderful to hear you say Life is Good!
I wonder if that app works on an iTouch, might check it out. I need to get more active. I used to walk/run a lot when I had a fitness freak neighbour who harassed me to go with her. Now I need to motivate myself and it's difficult at times. Excuses, escuses!

I have that app too and my boyfriend loves it. I've adapted the concept and do it at my own pace on the elliptical machine at the gym. It's a great way to keep the heart rate up!

Hi A-M - when times are tough, heart is breaking and legs are shaking, "Not ready to make nice" by the Dixie Chicks always gets me up that last hill. Especially when I sing it very loudly and out of tune!! Strange looks its true but it just makes me feel gutsy and strong. You go girl.

Running is a great start to the day A-M - it keeps me sane, happy & healthy - valuable 'me' time, & I love the 'worked' feeling for the day. I find I am so much more productive too! Keep up the good work.
