  1. Our friends who live in London have a little powder room like this under the stairs. I was like 'what the?' when I asked where the bathroom was and was shown to the stairs :)

  2. Hi A-M,
To me, this is actually pretty common, in the Netherlands people have small houses so space is always an issue, pretty clever isn't it?

    Have a great day! Maureen

  3. Now that's a great use of space! Location aside, I do love the basin and choice of tile...

  4. Hi A-M
I know it looks silly but I lived in a small terrace house in the London for 2 years and we had the same set up - a loo under the stairs. It's often the only way you can get a toilet on the ground floor, otherwise you and all your guests have to go upstairs. Many of our neighbours had the same set up. One of our neighbours had a 'tardis' sign on the door. I'm not kidding.

  6. Ha! This is totally normal in England, what better way is there to use that space? ;-)

  8. Oh wow, that is one lovely double doored bathroom!! We had a toilet under the stairs in our Army town house in Sydney, it was fantastic as the children were constantly circulating around the ground floor of the house, which was open plan & toilet trained VERY quickly as it was just THERE waiting for them. Now if it had a shower, that would have been impressive & very yacht like. Love Posie

  9. If desperate for that extra Loo, great idea. If not. Bloody awful!

  12. This is very common in the US. It does have a door, after all. It's just open at the moment. I'm sure it feels much more discreet usually!

  13. You wouldn't see it in New Zealand either but I think it is a great use of space. I would much rather see a loo under the stairs than opening onto the kitchen like I have seen in overseas homes on TV....yuck!

  14. I think so many people view that under the stairs space as a tricky spot. I love an inventive, outside the box approach!

  19. Well that's just plain cool! Kind of makes me think of Harry Potter, but still, what a brilliant use of space.

  20. Is it girls only - can the tall boys stand up in there??

  21. Yes, Harry Potter would love this! Very popular to put a toilet or shower under the stairs. My Aunt in the UK has a shower under her's - weird isn't it.

  23. This reminds me of the bathroom space my friend created for her tiny bar in downtown Seoul, South Korea! How adorable :)

  24. Hope there are a few diffusers around :) great use of space but I just couldn't use that loo if any guests were around I wonder what Harry potter would make of it? hee x

  25. I have seen the same use of space in townhouses in Qld, it's not all that uncommon now.

  26. I'm from New York City. I didn't get what you were so surprised about for a minute, but we have to jimmy things in wherever they fit here.
