Frankly....

Cute As Buttons! - thank you Channel 9

.... in my humble opinion, Katrina and Amie's room was the best by a 'country mile' (excuse the pun).

I am referring to the 'Room Reveal' episode of 'The Block' last night, on Channel 9.

Katrina and Amie's Room

Loved the consistency, use of repetition (vases, prints) and symmetry. Loved the 2 accent colours - very 'now' and only 2, easy on the eye, picking up the 2 colours in the prints too....  attention to detail! Loved the metallic curtains - very luxe, tied in beautifully with the bedside stools (loved the stools!). Great choice of lights - highlighting the exquisitely high ceilings (13 - 14 ft?). And I loved the exposed bricks... edgy, raw, complementing the cedar window and rustic, textured carpet.

Contemporary with an urban industrial 'kick'. Consistent, serene, inviting. Hey, and a perfect wall stripe... gotta love that painter's tape girls! Oh and the bedhead... well what can I say. A winner.

Gush, gush. Boy I was nervous for you girls last night. You did us proud!!!!

Loving this show. Creates wonderful discussion... everywhere.... even at the supermarket checkout. Can't wait to see what's in store for us next week!

I agree A-M. I thought their room was by far the best designed. I love the personalised artwork above the bed - beautifully done. The colours, the drapes - just perfect. Perhaps a mirror on that brick wall would have just finished it off - but I guess in the end it all comes down to budget. Well and truly addicted! ;)Sharyne

HI AM, I'm also loving this show. In my opinion the girls had the best room by far.I'm also looking forward to new decorating show that Jamie Durie is going to be hosting.

Their smiles are winners enough!

I am with you AM. The girls room was a winner. Don't they look so happy and gorgeous in their photo, real tv naturals.

I agree, think it's a gorgeous room. Can't wait to see what happens next! Emma.

I think they were robbed! Their room had so many spot on design elements that I thought it worthy of a better score (and certainly the best score). I think the judges are deliberately leaving 'improvement' room in the scores which is a bit contrived. Hope they stick with their style throughout and aren't too disheartened by the whole process.

Hands down the winner in our house too. Can't wait to see more of their work.

Could not agree more! Their room was fabulous and they are so much fun to watch! I cannot imagine how stressful it must be and they pulled it together so nicely. Go girls!

they totally did a fab job! love the personal touches too. thanks for posting links to Katrina's blog and to their FB page. now happily following both! Kate x

I have to say, I agree. Loved their room. I did feel sorry for the team who came last though. Hope they can step up to make it a more interesting competition. I did love the girls' colours, artwork and the exposed brick. Commenting on dust on the brickwork (by the judges) was being a little picky IMO.

Here, here A.M...absolute winners..and the girls are hilarious as well...what more could we ask for ;-)

I thought the girls had the nicest room also. I just loved the curtains. I didn't really get the paint effect over the bed however, it distracts from the lights.

HI A-M
I agree.. I like the girl's room best.. clean uncluttered beautiful... colours perfect.. I'd happily have it for my own...

I'm so enjoying this year's show and wish the girls the best of luck..

Have a great week.. ciao xxx Julie

Yes....me too!

I liked (loved) their room and was shocked when they didn't win!!!

I wish them luck for next week!

Look I would have to agree with you AM on this one. And its not because I am biased either, I really think it was the best room. Balance, colour everything. I totally disagree with the comment about putting a mirror or picture on the fireplace, I think the three vertical vases filled that space with perfect simplicity. I could go on!

Could not agree more!! The colours and balance created by the girls was current and a breath of fresh air!! I think they will win a room soon enough though. Annie xo

I thought the girls probably should have won the room last night - although i did like Josh & Jenna's room also. Can't wait to see what the other rooms look like.

I honestly loved their room the best. I love the colours. I loved the textures and that they were a little edgy. I think it was a beautiful bedroom. I was so disappointed they lost by 0.5pt:(. I am sure they are going to do really well though in the other rooms.
Loving the show too A-M:)

Isn't that first photo such a gorgeous shot of 'our girls'? I too loved their room and was certain it would be the winner - well styled, great colours, loved it all!

Their basic design principles were nice but that fireplace so close to the bedlinen! eeeekkkkk!!! That is if they did "fix" the safety issue and make the fireplace useable and if they didn`t then the room was uncompleted.

There was no storage whatsoever. Poor guests would still be living out of a suitcase.

I thought the curtains looked "cold"

I also agreed with the judges on their comments about the brickwall needing cleaning (a wire brush, soapy water and some good ole elbow grease works miracles on dirty bricks)and where the plaster butted up to the bricks it looked unfinished.

Funnny how we view things differently.

There was a generously sized built in wardrobe with mirror, in the corner, to the right of the fireplace, on the right as you walk in the door. It can be seen in the video the girls did on The Block website. A-M xx

I was so sure their room would have won 1st place! I thought it was def the best by far... and half a mark dif is just too cruel!
I'm LOVING it and Katrina makes me laugh every episode :)

I loved their room too, they are my favourite 'couple' & clearly know their style, it's very confident & understated at the same time, they don't need to show off, it's subtle & surely they'll end up winning. Love Posie

I don't want to sound blasphemous but Josh and Jenna's room deserved first place. I liked Katrina and Amie's room too, it showed a lot of personal style (and I can't wait to see their next room). But Josh and Jenna's room was chic and every element worked. I'm also a die-hard fan of vintage furniture and I think Josh and Jenna showed how to use vintage furniture in a way that is totally chic not nanna. Amber

I def agree AM! No bias here either! lol
But the other room I liked too, but the bed just didn't look right.
Can't wait to see what the girls do next! I'm voting for them to win!!!

GO GIRLS

Agree with you A-M - thought they had it in the bag! Look forward to what they come up with this week! Leanne x

They should have won! 1/2 a mark is just cruel, especially when I didn't like the other room as much. Loved their color scheme. Only comment of the judges that I agreed with was the curtains - they were too heavy and too much of a contrast to the rest of the room. Some light roman blinds like some of the other couples used would have been better.

Vintage Chic Delights said...

Their room really was the best! Everything perfect except maybe the curtains a bit heavy- right colour for industrial chic, but too much curtain.

Thanks A-M for The Block updates, I am missing it on our travels, have always watched past series and was so excited that it was to be in Melbourne in 2011.

Tried to set the recrder before we left but Foxtel IQ wouldn't series link it for some reason?????

"Go girls" too!!!!

I agree that the girls were robbed! In real estate terms, this room definitely had the 'wow' factor and looked so luxurious (with the bedhead and curtains) while mixing some contemporary elements of the traditional exposed brick and fire place. I do not see how these features were beaten by the other room...

A-M, you are COMPLETELY responsible for hooking me (and my whole family!) on this programme!!!! Can I make you take full responsibility for making me serve dinner late every night and the fact that I announced at dinner tonight, "Everyone quiet! No talking allowed! 'The Block' is on!"? Can I, huh can I?!?!?! ;-P

A-M said...

I-R, I will take full responsibility. We too are dragging the chain with dinner and bed. It's school holidays though so it is real treat. A-M xx

I loved the girls room. The pendant lights were just gorgeous.

I 100% agree but think the exposed brick wall with nothing as a feature on it was what shot them in the foot...such a shame...love their style. Must say though I love the guys that did win too as I like that they collect eclectic and mix it.. love that they source second hand although nearly choked when I heard they had paid $500 for the chair?.. I didn't see an Eames sitting there?.. Just loving the block..
