Well, I Loved It....

... you know how I am an absolute sucker for built ins, bulkheads and blackboards...

.... like here!

I loved the silver paint. Ok, so there were fingerprints....... the challenge of time pressures.

I loved the rustic signs and the fabulous industrial desk chairs. I didn't even think that a study would have less weighting than a bedroom and would go against them in the judging. Tough.

....and Mr Real Estate judge, keep up with the program......books displayed with their spines facing inwards are all the rage. 'How embarassment' for you Sir.

Considering aesthetic appeal for the final sale, I honestly thought Katrina and Amie's room looked the least 'second hand' and the most 'polished, clean, easy on the eye, spacious' room out of all of them.

Oh and Katrina is my friend. Smother her with love and support over HERE. It would make her day. It's her birthday soon you know. Shhh!

  1. Thank you lovely lady! I really appreciate your blog post! Amie and struggled with second hand week big time! I don't mind the odd second hand thing, but to fill an entire room with it was tough. Since then we have tidied the room up a bit and matched it in with the rest of the house. The silver doors have gone and they are now a neat white. I love the room though! I want it!!!

Amie will blog about it today over on my blog :)

  2. Hi AM

    Yes agree, agree, agree.

Loved the study - 2 desks not 1. Who wouldn't love to have separate desks and not have to share on one mess.
The cupboards, look at the ability to hide more mess and sort.

Whilst we're on to the judges - one can't say anything without glancing to the other and both having to agree - I'm sure both their houses/apartments would look vastly different to each others.

Tell Mr Expert to find another fashion pose with his arm crossing & upper arm holding with hands thingy that he does - watch next time to see what I mean, it looks so consistently put on.

    Go K & A.

Hope you are well Miss AM and back into the swing with school holidays over for now.

take care and have a lovely day

  3. I would have thought a big office would have worked in their favour. If I didn't have kids I'd love it. I think the judges have underestimated the number of professional couples who don't want children or have older kids moved out.

I do admit it wasn't my favourite room this week but it wasn't my least favourite. I think it's functional, practical and an important room which didn't deserve the low judging numbers.

  4. okay, I am a big fan of Amie and Katrina and love watching them every night- my son goes for Polly and Waz, so it's always interesting viewing! I can't say that I loved the room last night though as much as it pains me to write that! I was surprised with the silver paint (Katrina- pleased to hear it's now white!) but loved the 2 desks, great storage and of course the blackboards- I even loved the chair!! I didn't think they deserved the lowest score for the week.
I am v. keen to see what bathroom they produce this week, so keep up the great work and singing ladies!
Back to school morning for us too but my 6yr old is still in bed so I'd best go and get him up!! have a great day AM, K x

  5. Dr. Seuss: 'Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.' When it comes to you girls I have a serious case of design crush/envy. Actually if I'm honest it's probably more life crush/envy! My guess is that so do the people knocking you. Instead of being honest and inspired they're hateful and insecure. Bill Cosby had the best advice, respond with "So?". "Your mamma wears army boots?"..."So?"..."Your designs suck"..."So?", they'll soon get bored. As a mum of 3 that has to vacuum every day and is often buried under washing piles, my hat goes off to you for fitting this amazing experience into your life xxx KM

  6. My thoughts exactly A-M, I made the same comment about the book spines. Obviously someone needs to brush up on their blog reading! I'm for the girls all the way, so fingers crossed they smash it next room reveal. K xx

  7. Hi A-M,
I don't know this show, but I do know the same concept they had in the Netherlands. Love the bedroom, and I popped over to her blog, was nice to read that she set some things straight, I like her, shame I cannot watch this!
Also, I just finished reading all the posts I have missed here, I was busy and we are going on our holiday next week, but wanted to let you know that I truly enjoy reading your blog! Take care and see you soon,
    Maureen
(oh, and I love your two silver lamps on the side table!)

  8. I loved Katrina and Amie's study! I so totally agree with you about the books on the shelf with the spine facing in. My jaw hit the ground when I heard him say that! Where has he been?? *rolls eyes*.

I'm loving the industrial look! I can't wait to check out all the shops I've discovered in my home town! :-)

  9. Great post A-M, love the close up look at the details on the desk too.

K & A - How you girls created a room that looked like it was straight from the pages of 'Real Living' using only second hand materials beggars belief!

I love how you snuck the pouffe in too, I'd actually use it like that under my desk to rest my legs on.

Biggest of happy hugs to all,

  10. I thought the girls were the smartest. The demographic of the suburb is young execs not parents with teens. I think the buyers will love their place because it would work with their lifestyle. I love the silver doors, really cool. I think they should have got a higher score. I'm loving the block!

  11. I actually thought that given the real estate market in that area that making it an office for two professionals was a good idea. I think it was done really well

  12. Hi A-M, how I giggled when Mr Real Estate spoke about the book spines. Where has he been????? Loved the room and think the judges were a little harsh. XOX

  13. Sorry Josh and Jenna, I was not a fan of the pallet bed! Yuuuuuuck

I know you shouldn't argue with Mr Real Estate (JM) but he is showing his age by implying that the girls' style is 'too quirky' at times. I also think JM's safe style preferences are influencing Neale's normally well tuned design radar.

It became more obvious to me that the girls should have won the first room.

  14. What is it with TV judges that they have to be so self important and condescending?! Quite frankly any one who wears their polo shirt buttoned all the way doesn't have any style anyway!!!! The room was great, though I am a little pleased the doors are now white!

  15. Obviously being on the TV has gone to these judges heads who picked them???? I love that room!!

  16. That green chair & stool are to die for, gimme gimme!! Shall go stalk Katrina's site for details :)

  18. You know what irritated me about the judges comments? The us of the word 'zany'.. What the?

I didnt see any 'zany' elements in the room..

As others I didn't love the room, but I didnt dislike it at all either - I actually didn't love anyones room from week 2 to be honest ;)

Looking veeeery forward to this weeks big challenge!

  19. You know what I don't understand with this show is having only 2 judges, what if they don't agree! I think they need a second designer to help judge. I think the real estate judge really doesn't know what he is talking about when it comes to what's current with interior design.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I so agree Sandy. How about a third judge? A female, 'with it' interior designer... to balance things out a bit. A-M xx

  21. I know (re books!)! I would of thought Mr Belle mag would know about them, but he nodded in agreement with the real estate guy!
I'm always saying 'that's so hot in the blog world' about certain things on the show and then finding pics of other examples to show hubby!

  23. Hiya A-M,
Obviously something went amiss last night on the Block. Will have to watch it tomorrow on the laptop.
Then I'll add my 2 cents worth to the debate.
Most probably I'll say the girls was robbed.
Feeling pretty good at the moment, will post tomorrow.
