How about we start off the week with some pretty flowers? These beautiful orchids were given to me by my friend A-Mi (Anne-Marie with a i)..... yes shoved in a water jug... my kingdom for a vase. That photo was taken on our rainy Saturday... boy did it rain... from my little kitchen table.
Here is the first load of the contents of my shed heading off to various locations. I know that bed of mine was slept on last night by a woman who escaped domestic violence. My bookcases, desks, side-tables and armchairs were going to a family who has been homeless but now they have a roof over their heads. My treadmill and exercise bike went to victims of the flood, trying to put their lives back together. And my ping pong table is going to a men's shelter.
Yes, this is another big plug for 'GIVIT'.... head on over there and list things that you don't need, that are in good nick. You'll be contacted by a charity who needs your things.... specifically needs your things for people who have been through the ringer of life. You end up knowing exactly where your things are going and they go straight to those in need.... not into an overpriced op shop! It warmed my heart to know that someone was going to be sleeping in my bed last night.
I did a little dance in my empty shed. My life feels lighter. More portable. I only have what I need now. The last bits of 'The House' have gone. Now, what to do next?!!
Happy Monday!

Hello Miss A-M
ReplyDeleteDidn't it poor on Saturday - I gather no soccer as we had golf cancelled too.
As previously said - you are wonderful - more than wonderful.
I love charity giving and will use this organisation next I need to give. I do give so often and try to de-clutter frequently - but you know that demon that clutter is - it creeps up when you least expect it and grabs you.
have a lovely Monday - the birds are chirping feverishly as I type - Spring is knocking!
What a wonderful sound.

ReplyDeleteGood on you A-M! xx

ps I like the vintage look photo, how did you do it :)
To think you can hand over something so precious as a bed to a woman in dire need...it warms the soul. Thanks for sharing your GIVIT experience.
ReplyDeleteThank you A-M, I had not heard of "Givit", I will register with them. Enjoy your week! The sun is shining Yipee! Mimi xx
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, A-M. We have a storage container full of stuff. We haven't needed or missed any of it for the past 6 months, so when we empty it in a few weeks, I think I'll list the unrequired items on Givit.
ReplyDeleteOh A-M... That brought a tear to my eye, knowing you've provided a soft warm bed for a woman who has gone through the unthinkable... You have a good heart. Bless u
ReplyDeleteA-M you truly just keep giving and look at how the circle of friends keeps growing wider. Those folks that benefitted from your GIVIT stash won't ever forget you, even if they never met you. You have the warmest heart I know....
ReplyDeleteXO,
Andrea
Oh, A-M. You gorgeous-hearted girl. Bravo, my friend. I love the concept and have signed up but I don't think they're yet active in Hobart. I hope it spreads like wildfire. Brilliance plus. J x

ReplyDeleteI follow you for long. You are always an inspiration.
Regards.
Thank you. I'd never heard of Givit, such a wonderful thing to do.x
ReplyDeleteI don't normally post but I am always reading. Anyway, just wanted to say that after you mentioned Givit last week I went over there and saw that a man who had received a brain injury had recently acquired a small place to live and needed a cafe style table and chairs so that he could sit and eat. So the little cafe table and two chairs that were in storage under my house have now made their way to him. Such a nice feeling to know that they are being used. Thanks for reminding us all about others in need.
ReplyDeleteOh Lisa, I saw that listing! I read it out to my boys as an example of those in need. How wonderful that you have donated your table setting. You have warmed my heart this morning! I am smiling! A-M xx
ReplyDeleteGreat charity A-M,
ReplyDeleteso glad your putting a stamp on this one. Think a few retailers out there should keep this one in the diary for moving on good product at the end of sale season.
Would love to do as charity event like in the USA called Design on a Dime, Givit would be a great charity to springboard an event to raise so cash for the worthy cause.
Best wishes,
Daryl
Your so AWESOME!!!!! You get what you give, so give good. It feels good. I am secretly giving away our stuff to I have less to pack when we move. Ssshhh....don't tell the hubby.

That is so cool A-M. I love that everything goes directly to someone who really needs it. I must look to see if there is a givit equivalent over here. Being a constant gatherer, I'm sure that I could clear things out at the same time!
