Just Between You And Me....

.... I got in... by the skin of my teeth. Back desk second violins.... so 'back', that my music is photocopied ...and even with my glasses on, it is a stretch.

And I am not saying their name as I don't want this post to appear in any Google search for them ......as I don't want them to know how deliriously excited I am to just be there .... in the music...... the glorious music..... surrounded by really good musicians. This will give me a reason to practise. I'll have to ditch the bright red nail polish though.

The last time I was sitting amongst them was 20 years ago. Yep. The conductor recognised me. He said, "were you here last year"? I said, "no 1992". It was like coming home. It all came back... in a scratchy, 'I need a few weeks practice' way. I was sight reading so I wasn't too bad. Actually, when I hopped in my car at 10.30pm, I gave myself a hug and a big loud, "well done A-M". I did something that really scared me and I got through it. Next week won't be nearly as scary!

Hooray to 45 year old me. I tell you... anything is possible in this life.

Happy Tuesday!

  9. Congratulations. Conquering fear is good for the soul. I so enjoy your blog and seeing your lovely boys growing up. I especially like the fact that you didn;t dish the goods through your trying time. We need more closed mouths and respect out there. You are a roll model.

  12. Well done am! I will be giving this post to my mother to read. She played her whole childhood and won many awards, when she met my father he made some silly comment and having a sensitive heart and being madly in love she gave it up. About 30 or more years later her violins...yes she had many, were returned to her having been in storage all that time. I still remember her picking up one, holding it to her chin...tuning by ear and beginning to play away...it was magical. She hadn't touched it for all those years and it was breathtaking....I keep encouraging her to play with an ensemble etc again but she is shy because she feels her skills aren't what they were...maybe you can inspire her. Xxxx

  29. You. Inspire. Me. And just as I was looking at my violin tonight and chastising myself for not playing since Christmas. Because of you I will make a concerted effort to pick it up and start practicing regularly again. (proud of you)

  40. Congratulations A-M...I did something similar last year and dusted off my cello (after a decade) and joined the London Doctor's Orchestra. You are right - it does come back...not just managing to get the fingers around the notes, but the fantastic memories of playing in symphony orchestras from my younger days, and the pleasure that it still brings. Enjoy!

  42. I dusted off my viola after a 10 year hiatus and have been taking lessons ever since. I joined the community orchestra a little while later - I was totally terrified at my first rehearsal but it ended up being a lot of fun. Happy playing!
