Playing Hooky

Via Pinterest that links back to a spam source, sorry, no orginal source.

I played hooky from my life yesterday. I have been so busy catching up on everything since I came back from overseas ..... and I had just read through Joshua Becker's "10 Simple Steps To Make The Most Of Every Day", on his wonderful blog, 'Becoming Minimalist'... so I decided that steps numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 needed action immediately.

His steps for making the most of every day, extracted from his article, are:

1. Rise early. I find the early mornings are my most creative time.

2. Eat right. Nuff said.

3. Exercise. He states that recent studies show that people who regularly exercise report to be happier, calmer and better equipped to handle whatever the day decides to throw at them. I must say daily exercise has gotten me through some really tough times!

4. Accomplish one big task. Sometimes your 'to do'  list is overwhelming. Just knock off the biggest task and you'll feel like you have made the most of the day.

5. Do one thing that you love. Do something that "breathes life into who you are."

6. Rest effectively... "and don't feel guilty about it when you do".

7. Be present with others. Put away distractions. Engage in conversation. Look people in the eye. Be interested in them.

8. Give to someone else. "Invest your life in someone else every day". Love that.

9. Nurture your soul. Feed your soul daily with gratitude, laughter, hope and faith.

10. Reset. "Tomorrow is another day with great potential and opportunities. Start it fresh. Clear your clutter and refresh your home for a brand new day". Doing heaps of that. Has anyone else got the spring cleaning/decluttering bug? I have it bad.

So hubby and I downed work tools yesterday and headed off to see 'Hope Springs' with Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones. We laughed, we bawled.... oh how we bawled... such a timely movie for us..... we lunched...we walked.... and generally played hooky from everything until school pick up!

It was such a perfect day. And we laughed that the guilt will fuel a work-filled weekend!

Do you ever just take off from your life?... down tools?.... feed your soul?...guilt free?
I am still mastering the 'guilt free' part... but I'm getting better at it!

You can read the full article, on '10 Simple Steps To Making The Most Of Every Day', by Joshua Becker, HERE.

Happy Saturday and Happy Spring! We have a soccer carnival all day, for our little one. Big one will sit there, half interested, and text girls all day..... how life is changing for us!

Our son has Autism and life is 'heavy' but every now and then I have a day off from being a mother to a child with Autism and anything goes! I do it to 'feed my soul' and find Myself again.
I only ever take 24 hours, but it is like a mini-recharge.
I too am Sring cleaning- had a huge day yesterday:-)

  2. A-M, this is such a fitting post. You're words could not have arrived in my inbox at a better time. Thank you. Oh, and I also want to say a massive congratulations to you and your husband. As a reader, the news felt so left field ... but then, isn't that when you feel the greatest high ie a wonderful and huge surprise, just when you weren't expecting it. I wish you and your family all the very best for a great ride on the next journey in your lives.

  6. Activated no 4 last night by getting stuck into the 3rd 'unused' bedroom which had become a free for all. When I've got a lot on my mind I need to gain order in the house or I simply can't Think.

  7. As a long time reader of your blog I think this is the first time I have ever commented. I really just want to offer my congratulations on reaching this wonderful point in your life that very few would experience and you have arrived having retained your sense of self, your integrity and your unflinching devotion to your sons. I admire your strength and determination in what has been a difficult journey for you and to see you come out the other side is a wonderful thing......an inspiration to many I'm certain.
Enjoy this light-filled and joyous time in your life for all that it brings....you deserve real happiness!

  10. Oh darling, it's taken 4 years of having all 4 children in school but i think i'm doing almost every single point you listed, every day, it's amazing & the happiness is oozing out. I am so grateful i get to be a housewife, it truly gives a girl the best chance - as we have the time. My husband has demanded that i be selfish & put myself first for the rest of this year, on that note, i have a healthy lunch to prepare & exercises to perform, tally ho, love Posie

  11. I should have risen early today, instead of waking at 9.00 and missing son's soccer in Goulburn at 9.20 am. Whoops. First time this year! Can't wait for soccer to be over!
